What People Don’t Know About My Job From A to Z
A2Z was one of my favorite editorial projects. I had at my disposal a series of pre-published interviews with people of various careers from army soldier to zookeeper, and my task was to stylize the layout and condense it to no more than three spreads. Having always been a fan of historical or vintage aesthetics, I borrowed a look from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) of the late 1930s and early ‘40s. The WPA style is defined by flat images with a limited color palette, for which details are provided by shading. Through this approach, I kept the designs simple and cohesive, wanting my work to compliment the spread’s fascinating stories rather than drown them out.
