The Mikado

The Mikado (1885) by Gilbert and Sullivan is set in Japan. I took on the illustration and layout for the posters and the t-shirts given to the cast and crew. I wanted to bring some recognizable elements of Japanese culture into the illustrations. The poster’s layout was inspired by epic movie posters such as those for Star Wars. On the right is the t-shirt graphic, depicting the operetta’s title character. On the left is the poster.
